Karen Nottonson creates designer jewelry for today's independent, hard-working woman who wants to express herself, enjoy herself and reward herself with outstanding jewelry she can wear every day.

Combining a firm foundation in period jewelry with an innovative, contemporary approach, Ms. Nottonson’s work reflects a sense of humor, boundless imagination and an enviable penchant for color. Designs are handcrafted, often using high-karat gold and very unusual gems that intrigue the viewer. This is jewelry you will be asked about.

Ms. Nottonson began developing an eye for design at the age of 13, when she worked for a dealer of fine antique and period jewelry. She attended M.I.T., earning degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science. Working in the engineering profession, and later opening the original Harper & Faye Jewelers in Boston in 1983 acquainted her with the modern professional woman's busy lifestyle. An avid traveler, Ms. Nottonson absorbed artistic influences from around the world. She loves nature and the great outdoors, even spending two months trekking in Kashmir and Nepal. She is currently a volunteer instructor for the "Becoming an Outdoorswoman" program, teaching outdoor skills to adult women.
